Welcome to the Valley Beth Shalom Harold M. Schulweis Day School 2009-10/5770 school year. The VBS Day School faculty and staff are dedicated to providing a stellar education and enabling each student to reach their learning potential. In order to accomplish this goal, we build our program on three pillars of success: Academic Excellence, Strong Jewish Values, and a Dynamic Community.

New Cutting Edge Website Promotes Communication Between School and Home
This year, our cutting edge technology will reach new heights with a new interactive website. Parents will now have access to up-to-date news, programs, and their child’s daily homework and class information posted on a class webpage. Our new website is designed to make communication frequent and meaningful as we work together as partners in supporting the efforts of each student.

New Technology Sparks Creativity and Promotes Individual Achievement
Our leading edge K-6 technology program is deemed the best elementary school technology program in the area. Now in its second year, SmartBoards in every classroom, one-to-one laptops used by 4th-6th graders, our new technology lab, and classroom computers have enabled teachers to energize students in learning by integrating technology in every subject area. Students are building a myriad of skills and are motivated to use their creativity to demonstrate their learning through multi-media projects. This year, the school is launching its first competitive robotics team, combining technology and science, that will compete with middle schools in Los Angeles.

School Theme: A Year of “Celebrating Community”
This year, our school theme is “Celebrating Community.” Students and parents are all a part of our new Community Brit: Rainbow of Respect which highlights ways that we care for one another. Everyone can look forward to community building opportunities throughout the year including: school-wide Day School Family Fun Day, Day School Shabbat dinners and holiday celebrations, a parent-teacher social, grade level parent socials, and hands-on mitzvah projects.

This year, I look forward to watching each child grow as a learner and as an integral part in a dynamic community.

Sincerely,

Sheva Locke
Head of School
